The Evacuation Alert: that was issued for Low-lying Properties along Parts of Shuswap River; Issued June 19, 2012 remains in effect.
Recent rain and snowmelt continues to contribute to a steady rise in water levels in North Okanagan lakes and streams. As such, an Evacuation Alert has been issued by the Regional District of North Okanagan for:
All low-lying properties subject to potential flooding along the Shuswap River flowing south and west from Sugar Lake to Mabel Lake; and All low-lying properties along the Shuswap River flowing west and north from Mabel Lake to Mara Lake.

On Nov 18th at about 11:20 PM a City of Vernon Bylaw enforcement officer advised that he had just been struck by a vehicle, a 1994 Mazda 323 with BC plate while attempting to conduct a vehicle check at the top of Turtle Mountain Boulevard. The By-laws officer stated that the male driver pushed him back on the roadway for about 20-30 feet.

The North Okanagan Traffic Services and the Vernon/North Okanagan Detachment are reminding everyone that it is that time of year again. Winter driving conditions are in effect. With the changing weather and the colder night’s icy conditions on our roads can happen at a moment’s notice.
We have experienced snow at many of the higher elevations, and last evening our officers responded to a motor vehicle accident where an icy bridge deck likely contributed to the vehicle flipping on its side.
